Our Grand Adventure
All summer we have wanted to go on horse back up to Table Mountain. Yesterday we finally did it. It was so much fun. Table Mountain is a mountain that is just south and east of where we live. It is a wilderness area so the only way that you can go on top is by horseback or hiking. So we packed a lunch and snacks and were off. Morgan and Dana rode together, Casey rode with me, and Cassidy led the way. Table Mountain is very interesting. The way up is very tree infested. Lots and lots of pine trees. There was also a lot of slate rock everywhere. Just as it's name suggests, however, as you get to the top it flattens out and is just rolling hills of sage brush broke up by valleys filled with Aspens. The Aspens were beautiful because all of the leaves were changing colors. Cassidy and I kind of get the "what's over the next hill" syndrome when we get to places like these, but with the kids we could only push them so far. They made it 3 hours in the saddle before they wanted a break so they did really good. We ate our lunch and went exploring for a while to let their little legs and bums have a break. Casey was so content he fell asleep coming and going, but as long as he is horseback life is good for him. We were hoping to see some elk, which the area is famous for, but we just were not in the rights spots yesterday. It may have been that they heard us coming too!! It was a great day. I am so glad that we were able to go. When we get the pictures back I will share. I think that we might be about ready for an overnight pack trip (during the warmer months of course).

That sounds like so much fun! I really miss doing that kind of stuff. I'm hoping to go this weekend to do some hiking. It is weird to actually get a fall because for the last couple of years while we were in Alaska the leaves would start changing colors, it would snow that week, and then the leaves would fall off the trees. Not much fun! Please post some pictures when you get them developed.
I wish I could have been with you. I love that the weather has been so nice lately. It's good to get out. I am still planning on coming out there, maybe next weekend. I'll let you know for sure. I can't wait.
Hey Meghan, that sounds like such a fun family outing! You are so lucky! Your kids sure are cuties, I can't believe you have a seven year old! Where does the time go?
Hey pretty lady...sure to miss those days as well! When I come visit next we HAVE to go on a little outing like that! I can't wait! Can't wait to see the pics!!!
